Entry #1
Molly the Bordoodle!
Submitted by the LaPlante family
Boston, MA
Beginning June, 2022, we’re asking our families to submit guest blog posts about their Doodles that came from Lost Creek Farm. We’ll try to post a new entry every month and we hope this helps new families and existing owners alike! If you’d like to post, send an email to jeff@lostcreekdoodles.com.
As soon as we got married, we knew that regardless of the size of our future family, it wouldn’t be complete without a dog. Living about 30 minutes north of Boston, we have countless dog-friendly places throughout New England that are only a short car ride away. When researching breeds, Border Collies were high on our list because we wanted a smart, friendly and athletic dog; but with allergies in our house, we decided that a Bordoodle would be a better fit for our family with a reduced chance of allergens. After e-mailing with a handful of breeders, we knew Lost Creek was the way to go. Their testimonials speak for themselves and we were instantly drawn to them because not only did them seem to breed beautiful dogs, but genuinely care about the puppies and their future families. It’s not every day that you find breeders who have long lasting connections with families who have adopted from them in the past.
When Spring 2021 rolled around and we found out that 3 litters of Bordoodles were on their way and would be ready to go home with their new families at the end of the summer, we were ecstatic! Once the puppies arrived, we were granted access to a private page where we loved seeing all the puppies and were given great information and resources specific to Bordoodles. Jeff & Michele were extremely helpful in guiding us to make the best choice based on which traits and characteristics we were looking for in a dog. They definitely took everything we said into account and led us to our Molly.
Molly is a standard Bordoodle from Patsy Cline’s very first litter on June 25, 2021! We constantly get stopped in public by people commenting on how beautiful our girl is. She got her build, her hair, and her brown eyes from her dad, John Henry, who is a standard poodle, but got her gray and white coloring and size from Patsy. At one year old, we find her to be the perfect size for us at 38 pounds. Her long legs make her pretty tall for a mid-sized dog, but we’re sure they’re also to credit for her speed and swimming abilities! She’s very intelligent, curious, very loyal, gentle, sweet, feisty, energetic, friendly, extremely social, and a VERY happy girl!

From day one, Molly has always been a fantastic traveler! We opted to travel to Texas to pick her up in August of 2021 and at just 8 weeks old, she was literally perfect through security, gate changes, a flight halfway across the country, and the car ride home. To this day, she’s still a great co-pilot in the passenger seat for both of us, but also behaves very well in the back set when we go places as a family. This makes it a breeze to bring her literally everywhere! She accompanies her Mama to work several times each week and loves greeting clients at the salon! She also comes with us to breweries, trails, outdoor dining, and so many other places all over New England and New York. Her favorite places to go are the dog park to run and wrestle with her friends, “school”/day care, Doodle Group every Sunday, the pool, and anywhere there is a ball! She can literally sniff out a ball ANYWHERE. As soon as she finds a ball, she will bring it to you, drop it at your feet, and sit waiting for you to kick it. She darts after it with Border Collie speed and prances back to you with pride like a Poodle. We can’t even say the word “ball” or the phrase “kick it” anymore without her dropping whatever she’s doing and frantically searching for the ball!
We find that Molly catches on to new tricks easily and definitely thrives on the structure of training both at home and with trainers. She LOVES to learn and is very focused when in training mode. She learned “sit” at just over 9 weeks old right after coming home to Massachusetts! At about 10 weeks, she mastered “down” (lay down) and now also knows shake (paw), other paw, place (go to her bed), touch (uses our hands as a target and touches her nose to it), leave it (for something we don’t want her to touch or have), drop (used during playtime to drop toys), and also listens when we tell her to get down, get her leash, go in her crate, get up on the bed or couch, etc.
Molly absolutely LOVED the snow this winter! When the snow melted and created a muddy mess at the dog park, she also fell in love with the mud. She has coined the name “Muddy Molly” from the dog park regulars because regardless of the park conditions, she manages to find a way to get filthy. Thankfully, we have a self-serve dog wash about 5 minutes from our house! She is a good girl in the bath, but playfully attacks the air from the dryer. Between the bath, the river, and the pool, one would think that she’d love ALL water, but she definitely does not like stagnant water. When water is still in her dish, she will dig in it to get the water to move which often results in a flipped dog dish and a bit of a mess! We’ve solved that problem with a running water fountain for the house for our little princess! Her only other dislike seems to be the vacuum.
It’s been hard not to spoil our little Princess Molly. She just had her first birthday party at the dog park with some of her favorite fur friends and it was a hit! She wore her party hat, handed out goodie bags with dog treat for her friends to celebrate, and got her very first “pupcake” from The Barkery! She also complied when we bought her a flannel and pajamas to match ours for holiday pictures, dressed her up in Boston sports merch, and even a Halloween costume (all are pictured on her very own Instagram account: @molly.doodledoo)
Molly is extremely well behaved! Her friendly demeanor and sweet temperament make her a perfect companion! To know her truly is to love her! We can’t wait to take her on more adventures near and far. She is SO loved and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect fit for our family! We certainly hope to get Molly a little brother or sister from Lost Creek in the future!
